4 Tips For Packing And Moving Houseplants

When you are getting busy packing up your belongings for your move, you might come to a halt when you reach the houseplants. These are not simply placed in a box and sealed up for the move. You need to be more careful with them and ensure they are not damaged while being transported. Here are some tips for packing and moving your houseplants.

Switch to Plastic Pots

It can be dangerous when you are moving plants in their current glass or ceramic pot, so you should transplant them into a plastic pot. This should be easy to do as long as you have chosen a plastic pot that is the same size and shape of the ceramic one. The plastic pot will hold up and keep the plant protected even if it falls over or there is an incident while it is standing in a moving truck. If it accidentally falls in the truck with a glass or ceramic pot, it might break, which can ruin the plant. Just make sure the pot is the same size; otherwise, it could put your plant in jeopardy.

Use Plastic and Cushion in the Boxes

For smaller plants, you don't need to place them directly in the moving truck, but instead place them in a box to protect them during the move. If you do this, start by making sure your moving boxes or containers are very sturdy. Plants can be quite heavy, especially while in a pot. Line the box in plastic first, then place the plant inside. Placing more than one is okay, but be careful about how heavy the box gets. When you are done fitting the plants inside, have cushion placed around the plants that keeps them from moving around too much during the move.

Know if the Movers Will Take the Plants

If you are hiring professional movers such as Advanced Movers to help you relocate your home, you need to find out exactly what types of items they will and will not take in their truck. Some moving companies might not take plants because it is difficult to insure them and often a struggle placing them in the truck and avoiding damage to them. They can also sometimes create a mess with the dirt and attract insects, which is another reason they might not want them in their moving truck. Find out beforehand so you can decide if you will move the plants yourself or decide to sell them to someone else before you move.
